a native of Bologna, Italy, and graduate of the Italian National Hotel and Restaurant School, has worked at some of the finest hotels and restaurants in the world.
In 1980, the opportunity arose to move to California from London, and with chef Suzette Gresham, Paterlini founded Acquerello, where the duo immediately received acclaim for creative cuisine and elegant service. “It was always my dream to open my own restaurant where the menu was evolved and modern,” he says. Acquerello has for 30 years been highly regarded for its fine Italian cuisine, and holds two Michelin stars and the coveted Wine Spectator’s Grand Award.
His creativity extends to photography, which he views as a personal expression of the feeling and vision evoked by the places he visits, including both iconic locations and lesser-known landscapes. In his images, he strive to imbue the landscapes with an impressionistic sensibility…with the movement of water, fog, a mystical light, a dream-like setting.
